Frequently Asked Question

Getting married on an island far from home often inspires a slew of questions. Call us at (808)344-3843 or email to ask anything you'd like. Below we've answered some questions we regularly hear. Hope they help!

Flower Girls in MauiWhat equipment do you use to shoot your weddings with?

Professional grade digital Canon equipment with many lenses. The high resolution images can be printed very large without losing any of the quality. Natalie is skilled at using a high powered off camera electronic flash which allows a very high level of creative freedom in bright and changing light conditions. She can off set and balance the bright sunlight just prior to sunset as well as move back and use telephoto effects that require external lighting.

What about shooting family portraits?

She uses the same equipment for family and vacation portraits.

Will you be willing to photoshop any of the images?

Yes. A lot of the time and effort involved in the images is post production. She opens every image in Photoshop and makes certain the lighting and situation is as perfect as she can make them. People can be taken out of the backgrounds, fix stray hairs, and hide unwanted blemishes. For any occasion, hundreds of photograhps will be taken. It is impossible to photoshop all of these details in everyone one of these photographs. She will take the best images and fix blemishes, unsightly tan lines, etc... After viewing the images, let her know which images you'd like to fix before printing.

Do I pay you before, after or both?

To secure a date with Natalie Brown Photography you have to give a deposit. For portraits the deposit equals the full amount. For weddings you pay 50% to secure your date. The remainder is due 1 month before the event.

For your family portraits, do you give children discounts?

We don't give discount for children because it's often more difficult to photograph them.

What is your favorite place to see someone get married?

Almost anywhere in South Maui is great for photo opportunities. And what's good for the photos is good for your entire wedding. The beaches are gorgeous, the weather is usually nicer and sunnier than all other parts of the island, and the sunsets are incredible. Besides it's photographic qualities, this area has one of the largest selections of services you will need for your wedding. Currently Kaanapali Beach is off limits for wedding ceremonies and family portraits due to Maui County Regulation.

What's the best time of day to get married in Maui and to take photos?

The sunset time changes throughout the year. In general, a couple hours before and during sunet offers the best light. Planning your ceremony a couple hours before sunset is good so that we can have a good hour at sunset for photographs.

What makes Natalie's photography different from the rest?

Many people say that Natalie's style puts people at ease and makes the experience more enjoyable. Your comfort level during your shoot is important because it's reflected in the photos. Natalie's relaxed manner and professional direction help achieve the perfect atmosphere and great energy. Also, she looks for the best composition with her intuitive eye to ultimately get the best background.

How many pictures are you going to take?

She averages aproximately 125 -200 pictures an hour.

Can I get a CD of all the images?

Of course! A disc is available for additional purchase if you'd like to keep all the high resolution images forever. These images will be yours to print freely in any quantity you'd like. With all of the packages you can print your images from the internet for a specified price.
